7 Habits for Success

7 Habits for Success

Tya Waterman |

Success means something different to everyone. You may define success as having a thriving career, a happy home life, or even hitting a new 1 rep max on your squat.

However you define success, we want to help you get there. We’ve gathered 7 habits that you can implement in your life to help you become more successful. These habits can be applied at work, regarding your fitness routine, or in your daily life.

  1. Identify core values

The place where we suggest you start your successful habits is here. Identify your core values, what is most important to you, what you believe in, and how you want to be perceived. Everyday return to these core values and reflect on whether your choices and behaviours have honoured your values.

When you move on to the second habit for success, setting goals, ensure that your goals align with these core values.

  1. Set goals

In order to get to where you want to be, its important to highlight for yourself exactly where that is. Identify one or two long term goals and begin breaking those down into small, more achievable goals. Set weekly and daily goals that you can continue to accomplish and that will help you work towards your long-term goals.

Like many of us, you may end up with a long list of goals and to-dos every day. Its essential to learn how to prioritize these daily tasks and goals. One of the best ways to do this is starting with the hardest task during your peak energy levels.

Another tip to help you achieve all your goals is to set deadlines for each goal or task. Be realistic with these deadlines. Allow yourself the necessary time, but don’t give yourself too much extra time as this can lead to procrastination.

  1. Spend time with successful people who inspire you

We’ve all heard the saying, “you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with.” Ensure you are spending time with people who you admire and who you consider to be successful. Learn from them and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

  1. Make your health a priority

Exercising will not only make you physically fit, it will also help keep your brain healthy. But making your health a priority doesn’t stop at working out, you also need to consider how you are fuelling your body, how much sleep you are getting every night, and ways in which to reduce stress in your life.

  1. Be open to continual learning

Work every day to continue to develop and fine-tune your skills as well as learn new ones. Putting time and effort into your own self-development is one of the best investments you can make. Read books, take classes, be curious, and learn from those around you.

  1. Take risks

In order to improve, you must be willing to take risks. You must be consistently pressing the boundaries of your own competence and getting outside of your comfort zone. Success can be uncomfortable at times.

  1. Persevere

Speaking of uncomfortable, failure is certainly that. But as we all know, failure is inevitable. Don’t let set-backs stop you. Take responsibility for your losses; own them and then fix them. Persistence and hard work are necessary to reach any of your long-term goals.

No matter how you define success, implementing these 7 habits into your daily life will help you get there.
