It has been proven our morning habits and get-out-of-bed rituals set the tone for the rest of the day.
Often our mornings have less stress than other times of the day, and provide the perfect opportunity to set our day’s intention. If you’ve taken care of yourself the night before and slept well, you should wake feeling rested. Take in the possibility of another great day as you breathe out all of the stale air, energizing yourself even before your feet hit the floor.
U.S. Navy Adm. William H. McCraven, the commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command, told graduates of his alma mater, the University of Texas, “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed,” he said. “It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another. And by the end of the day that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed.”
Unmade beds, dishes left in the sink, yesterday’s clothes on the floor all lead to mental clutter. Worse, they are tasks that can be completed in just a few minutes, leaving you with a fresh injection of accomplishment.
So start your day with a well-made bed and rise to the challenges as they come, one task at a time. The most successful entrepreneurs, world leaders and all around superstars wake with the sun. Many exercise – even before they drink their first Cup O’ Joe. And lots meditate or spend time visualizing what they wish to accomplish that day.
Some weigh themselves each day to keep track of their health and fitness goals. Others regularly drink a glass of warm water with freshly squeezed lemon juice. Several write in a gratitude journal, others write a short list of three things they’ll accomplish throughout day.
We believe in taking our vitamins, followed by a green smoothie (almond milk, Kaizen Naturals® Protein, frozen fruit, spinach, matcha tea and coconut oil). We enjoy them with someone we love (spouse, kids, dog, ourselves).
When bulletproof habits become automatic, you’re more likely to have a positive, productive day. Feeling healthy and alive, committed to fitness with a calm state of being, all contributes to the way you interact with the world. Perhaps it’s time to overhaul your morning habits or infuse your morning with a more effective routine.
