Fermented, Ideal Ratio, Amino Acids; What does it all mean and are BCAAs for you?
If you’re serious about strength training, you’ve probably heard of Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs). But if you’re in the dark, don’t panic, you’re not alone. Although most people dedicated to fitness understand the importance of food as athletic support, not everyone understands the benefits of supplementation to fitness. While we don’t judge, we’re here to shed some light on another key product in our arsenal of awesome.
What are BCAAs?
To fully understand the role of BCAAs in supplementation, we need to understand the role of protein. A fifth of the body is made from this oh-so-important building block. It is the foundation for body tissue, acts as a fuel source and is needed to form blood cells. Protein is found within all cells of your body and is their major structural component.
Protein is composed of 22 amino acids, nine of which are called “essential”. Unfortunately, our body doesn’t make them naturally, which means they must come from nutrition and supplementation.
While protein intake is a great source of amino acids, BCAAs can provide additional support. BCAAs are identified as the essential amino acids Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine. The BCAA Leucine, in particular, has a significant influence on the preservation and growth of muscle and is known as the ignition for protein synthesis.
